DLP settings - shared storage

In my ePO I have only DLP Endpoint license and use DLP just for device control purpose, I'm trying to understand why Shared Storage Location is required, if I do not have DLP Discovery, Prevent, Monitor, and I do not store any evidences on disk. I would like to make a backup of my DLP configuration however backup can't be created due to policy validation - policy validation failed because of missing Shared Storage. I would like to understand why Shared Storage is required because from my point of in environment like mine Shared Storage should be a optional feature not requirement.
