“Error EE020002 error writing disk sector”

Jump to solution

Hello community, despearately seeking some help here!

I have a system that died, now on boot it shows error "Fatal Error [0xEE020002]".

I have tried to decrypt the drive so the files can be recovered, using both Standalone DE Tech and WinPE versions.  Both time it is the same result, I receive the "Unable to write sector" error when trying to remove DE or force decrypt using specified sector ranges from disk information.

I know my key and other setup items are good, because I am able to decrypt the first sector in Workspace, turning the encrypted code into legible text about boot manager.

I have tried changing many BIOS settings, reading lots of McAfee community posts and even the EZPE tool to try and decrypt however I cannot overcome the “Error EE020002 error writing disk sector”.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I saw a similar issue with the response to full sector clone the drive and maybe Remove DE or Force Decrypt052

I also saw some response about running chkdsk to help with this issue, however when I try to do so from the WinPE environment, it tells me that the file format is RAW, so the chkdsk command cannot be used.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks,

Adam

To help anyone else who comes across this issue and error code, the solution for me was to use Clonezilla to perform a sector by sector clone of the M2 SSD to another M2 SSD of the same size, including the partition table, in "Rescue" mode, which skips over bad sectors.

Then, once cloned I was able to use DE Tech to remove DE without an issue.

I guess a hardware problem on the original drive was causing DE Tech to not be able to write to any sectors.

Once decrypted, I still had to run repair in Windows 10 on the restored file partitions when opening them in explorer it detected there was an issue and offered the repair which was successful.

I think maybe one or two files are corrupt (due to the original corrupt sectors) however most of the files are OK.

I hope this helps someone else in the future with the same problem and if you have any questions about this issue just put them on here and I will answer.

Thanks,

Adam

Just to add / rule out, I have also taken the disk offline using diskpart in WinPE environment, and the result is the same, so the issue is not caused by the disk being seen as online.
