File Age exclusion behavior?

Jump to solution

Hi,

Looking at the on-demand scan properties and specifically the exclusions.
I click to add an exclusion and select the option for 'File Age'

I set it to exclude created 30 or more days ago

if that file is accessed - will it get scanned?
if that file is modified - will it get scanned?

Any recommendations or best practices for these settings?  Specifically for scanning a file server.

Thanks.

Hello @McADOC1

Thanks for your post.

Please refer the below KB article:

Best practices for on-demand scans in Endpoint Security and VirusScan Enterprise

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB81751&locale=en_US

Exclude files by age:

  1. Click the Exclusions tab.
  2. In the What not to scan section, click Exclusions.
  3. In the Set Exclusions window, click Add.
  4. Select By file age.
  5. From the Access Type drop-down list, select Modified.
  6. In the Minimum age in days, increment from 1 to 8.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Schedule and configure the ODS to be scheduled weekly, then click OK.
  10. Click OK. The ODS Properties window closes.

NOTES:

  • A targeted file that has not been modified within the last eight days does not get scanned.
  • This exclusion can significantly reduce the time needed to complete the ODS task.
