Active domain controller

Jump to solution

Under the Windows Domain Membership setting.

I saw there's an option to key in (1-10 active domain controller).

So I have multiple AD and I key in let's say 6 AD. Will the 6 AD be active at the same time??

Can advise on the following question? Thanks in advanced

Yes. In the box 'Configured Domain Controllers' you will put in the FQDN (preferred) or IP addresses of the DCs (or.... you can have MWG auto-detect via DNS if you have appropriate SRV records).

In the box 'Number of Active Domain Controllers' you specify how many of the DCs you want to stay active at any one time. If you put 5 DCs in the list above, and put '5' in this box, then MWG will try to keep all 5 DCs active.

Yes, that is correct. The number of Active DCs you specify will be the number that MWG tries to maintain sessions to.

For example, if you have 3 DCs and you choose 2 to be active, MWG will initiate SMB connections to the first 2 DCs in the list. Assuming the connections were successful, these 2 will remain active until one of the DCs is marked as 'down' by failing a connection check (default is 3 min interval (180 sec)).

Once a DC is marked as 'down', MWG will connect to the next DC in the list until it has again established 2 active connections.

For authentication requests, MWG will round-robin distribute all the authentication requests to the active DCs. Because of this, it is often preferable to have multiple active DCs at one time to distribute the load and help ensure faster authentication responses.
