MWG update

Jump to solution

Currently running MWG 7.7.2.8.0 as a load-balanced pair.

What is the recommended upgrade version: 7.7.2.19 or 7.8.2.5?

Thanks

Re: MWG update

Hi,

Hope you are doing well.

7.8.2.5 is the latest main release version. Recommandation is to go for latest main release version.

Please refer below link for 7.8.2.5 version release notes:-

https://kc.mcafee.com/resources/sites/MCAFEE/content/live/PRODUCT_DOCUMENTATION/28000/PD28156/en_US/...

Upgrade from version 7.7.2.8 to 7.8.2.5 will be a phased upgrade.

This is a phased upgraded from MLOS2 to MLOS 3. Till 7.8.1.6 it is MLOS2 and then it is MLOS3

for upgrade from MLOS2-MWG (older than 7.8.2.0) to MLOS3-MWG (>= 7.8.2.0) in one go the following procedure should work:

mwg-switch-repo main                # or mwg-switch-repo 7.8.2.4

yum clean all                                  # optional

yum upgrade yum                      # this will install yum + mlos3-upgrade package
                                                    # (if the mlos3-upgrade package not installed)

yum upgrade mlos3-upgrade           # this will upgrade the mlos3-upgrade package if an
                                                       # old version of mlos3-upgrade is installed

yum upgrade                               # this command should start the mlos3-upgrade -
                                              # process which will automatically upgrade to
                                                  # 7.8.1.6 -> 7.8.2.0 -> 7.8.2.x (main)

reboot                                  # The mlos3-upgrade process will do a system reboot
                                              # automatically if the upgrade will complete
                                         # successully

Re: MWG update

Hi Alok,

Thanks very much for your reply.  We have 4 appliances configured as a Central Management Cluster. I believe that this should be broken prior to the Upgrade. What is the procedure for recreating the cluster afterwards?

Thanks again.

Re: MWG update

Hi,

Hope you are doing well.

Please refer below link Best practices when upgrading Web Gateway 7.x appliances that are in Central Management:-

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB76905&locale=en_US&viewlocale=en_US

You can also have the MWG's in Central Management with 2 different versions till the time all are upgraded to same versions

You can disable the option "Enable version checking for other nodes" so that both MWG's with different versions can be joined into the cluster.

Please navigate to Configuration> Appliance-> Central Management->Advanced Management Settings->disable option enable version checking for other nodes

NOTE: - As a best practice All appliances should be running the same version & build. It is never recommended to mix versions in a Central Management cluster.

There is also the option to upgrade all nodes and keep the cluster setup. Where you have to accept notification or log entries of sync failures(due to version mismatch) till all devices are on same version. Or you simply set the version check in central management settings to verify only the first version number or disable it accordingly. You can keep the cluster while doing the upgrade and will not see any failures or messages about version mismatch. But you should still be careful depends what version jump you do with policy changes during the mixed version setup. Even if you do any change in between, you should only get a message of save change failed(in case a property for example is used from newer version which does not exist in the older).
