There is no single file size limit for scanning, it differs based on filetype.
MWG doesn’t include any artificial limitation. One of the limiting factor can be the size of /opt partition.

I haven't seen a whitepaper, but the larger the file, the more disk space you'll need and the more time to process. We set the limit at 1 GB, because we hit space issues on larger sizes. The issue arises on compressed files that need to be uncompressed, because then you need 1 GB for the file, plus at least that for uncompressing. We also started to hit timeout values when we to larger files. Depending on the application depends on the time and size of the file.
