McAfee Web Gateway: update appliance software

Jump to solution
Hi, if you select the appliance and click the button "update appliance software", then the update installation starts immediately and you don't get any information about the version that is going to be installed. And you don't have a chance to stop the update process. How can I get an information about the update version that is going to be installed? Is there an option to revert an installed update if the appliance does not run anymore after the installation? Best regards, Frank

Hello @User27001337

the best practice is to use a system console, using a local system console or remotely using SSH:

Best practices for updating Secure Web Gateway - Skyhigh Security (myshn.net)

Upgrading to a New Version - Controlled Release - Skyhigh Security (myshn.net)

Downgrading is not supported (read documentation above). Usually the upgrade process is very robust so no downgrading is requried. Follow described best practices (physical access or RMM, maintanance window, backup, order of upgrade steps etc.) to be prepared anyway.

Even more tips:

  • run "yum check-update" to check for available version without performing an upgrade..
  • use "--downloadonly" yum switch to pre-download rpm packages, to speed-up an upgrade.

Yes, I think this would be a good idea to show a notification about a new version directly in the UI, you can create a Feature Requests in the Idea Hub: https://communitym.trellix.com/t5/Enterprise-Customer-Product/ct-p/enterprise-ideas

Hello @fw_mon ,

thanks for your quick response.
Is it possible to get some kind of push info about new available updates or do I have to look it up actively myself?

All other suppliers like proofpoint, Cisco and Zertificon are able to announce new updates directly on the appliance, but Trellix McAfee isn't.

Best regards,
Frank
