A few systems not sorting

I have a couple systems that I found in Lost and Found set as the Catch-All which fit sorting criteria for other groups, so they should not be falling into Lost and Found. I'm on ePO 5.10 CU4.

It's as simple as this:

Sorting criteria for group is that the client has a specific tag applied. The tag is on the systems, they don't get sorted on them. I reset sorting to enabled on them, still didn't get sorted into the containers. I moved them to the group I wanted them in...ran a sort now on that group and they went back into Lost and Found. 

Anyone who has run into this have any insight into something I might be missing? I'm only talking 3 out of 15,000 systems (the others are sorting fine) having this problem, but it's driving me crazy. 

I know I can just move them in the correct group and select to disable sorting, but I'd rather fix whatever the cause is.

Could you please check if System Tree sorting is selected in Server Settings.

Yes, it's set to sort systems on each agent-server communication. Like I said, most of the systems are sorting just fine it's only impacting a few...but I am positive that they fit sorting criteria for existing groups as it is looking for a tag, and they have the tag that all the other systems getting sorted into their groups have.

I tried to reproduce it but not able to do. You also are facing the issue only on 3 machines. Rest are working fine.

To look into the issue.

1. Do machines has multiple tags assigned? There could be Tag1defined in sorting criteria above the Sorting group and machines are placed there.

2. If the machines are not showing in desired Sorting group when you do 'test sort', simply say that machine is not meeting the criteria.

There could be Tag1defined in sorting criteria above the Sorting group and machines are placed there. They do, but they aren't tags that would sort them into another group, and they are not being sorted to another group they are going into the catch-all. Like I said, even if I manually move them into the group they are supposed to be in they are sorting back into lost and found.

2. If the machines are not showing in desired Sorting group when you do 'test sort', simply say that machine is not meeting the criteria. That IS what is happening. The problem is that they actually do meet the sorting criteria. Therein lies the problem.

When sorting fails like that, there are several things to look at.

1.  You have already looked at the obvious, which is sorting enabled, etc.

2.  Sorting is done in a hierarchal manner.  If the group you want it to go to is in a sub group, does the parent group have any sorting criteria that the system doesn't match, or none?

Example -

group A parent group has tag or ip criteria

sub group b has a specific tag criteria

Group a critiera must contain the same tag that group b has.

If group a has no tags and is configured by ip range, then the system must match the parent group first before it can go into the sub group. 

If the system doesn't match any of the parent groups, it will not sort.

With 2 of them, just to give an idea, they has the exact same 2 tags (Lets call them X and Y) as all the systems in the group they are supposed to be sorted into. The only sorting criteria for that group is that it has tag X.

I'm at a loss with it, because they do not qualify to be sorted into any other group and are still falling into the catch-all.

Is the group they should be sorted into a sub group?  If so, what is the sorting criteria for the parent group?

Also, what else is different about these systems vs the ones that do sort?

It's a subgroup. So it turns out that whoever set this up just moved the systems into that group and disabled tree sorting on them. When I looked at the ones in that group everything else was the same. 

They did not fit the criteria of the parent group, which would be for corporate workstations. These are workstations but specialty ones that need different policies than corporate, thus why they are in that subgroup. Thanks for helping.
