DAT Reputation Error

On some of my computers I am seeing the following error:

06/05/2015 06:03:35 AM mcdatrep:xxxx (TELEMETRYLITECOMMONUTILS.) failed to rate connection TSSDK with error code : 51

Does anyone know what this means? Thanks!

Hm,

is the endpoint able to establish a direct SSL connection to an mcafee.com domain?

If no, perhaps the SSL connection to transfer the telemetry data could not be established.

Starting today I started seeing this in the datreputation log...

"06/17/2015 06:04:48 AM mcdatrep:2xxx (TELEMETRYLITECOMMONUTILS.) Successfully received DAT Reputation as UNKNOWN i.e 6 for DAT number: 7834.0000"

Does this mean that the server successfully reached the mcafee servers to check the DAT reputation or does the "UNKNOWN" indicate failure?

We have been seeing the "Unknown " status for DAT Reputation as soon as we installed it. A few weeks ago, I opened up a ticket with McAfee support who investigated this issue. According to what I was told is that McAfee has yet to enable the setting for Good or Bad thus causing the unknown status.

Below is what they say;

"I discovered today that we are not yet setting the DAT reputation to “Good” or “Bad”. This is why the reputation is showing as “Unknown”. I don’t have an ETA of when they will be shown as “Good” or “Bad”, but I would recommend signing up for our Support Notification Service (SNS). They may announce it through that channel. Please let me know if this answers your question, and if I may close out the case as resolved at this time."

we changed to the latest DAT Reputation Extension and to DAT Reputation 1.0.3 on endpoint. Afterwards the unknown Dat Reputations moved away.

I assume for you to get it to work, you had to point your repository to the commonupdater3 site. I am going to wait until they flip on the auto updated on June 30th to see if it fixes it for us.

any more information on this? We've been experiencing these errors for quite awhile now with very little traction.

I'm really interested in understanding this specific error and what it means. We were told same as others to wait for and then update to the 1.0.3 which we did with zero impact to our enterprise failures of DatRep look ups.

I had this issue since the datrep process was introduced earlier this year, and I found out 2 things that were preventing this from working correctly in our environment-

1. proxy info has to be enabled in the repository policies (either using IE settings, or manually entering), and

2. this functionality does not work with 5.x agents.

I'm told there will be a fix for this, but don't know when.
