EPO 5.10 Update 10 & TIE extension

Jump to solution

I updated the ePO with the required extensions as stated in KB94079. Update 10 installed successfully. But I notice now under Configurations> Server Settings> TIE Server Topology Management, there is an Extension Compatibility Error:

TIE Server version (3.0.0.480) must match TIE Server Management Extension version (3.0.1.122).

The TIE Server and TIE Server Management version numbers must match. The matching number is the latest version of either the server or the extension.

Current TIE Server version: 3.0.0.480 For more information go to System Information page
Current TIE Server Management extension version: 3.0.1.122 For more information go to Extensions page.

See the latest Release Notes available for upgrade instructions.

Am I forced to Upgrade my TIE server as well? Or can I install the older compatible extension for TIE 3.0.0.480 back on ePO? Please advise.

Hello @kblowe

Thanks for your response.

Afaik, TIE Server and Extension should be on the same version.

I don't think that older version will work with CU 10 version because that is not supported version.

So in your case i believe you need to upgrade your server as well with the same version.

If you want you can open a SR as well with the support team.

Hello @kblowe

Thanks for your post.

I would like to inform you that TIE Server Extension version 3.0.1.122 used to deploy TIE server from ePO into vmware.

If you do not have any plans to deploy TIE servers via ePO console, it should be safe to take proper backups and remove this extension.

We checked with Dev, TIE dev initially stated that the Server Deployment extension is being phased out because its not really used.

Also the ServerDeployment extension is not supported for CU10 and will need to be removed before CU10 can be installed.

I believe this will get removed from the download site and software catalog.

KB94079 will also get updated.

Mostly we have seen that customersdeploy the TIE OVA or VM template on vmware and do not use ePO for this step.

The server deployment extension allows you to interface with the Vmware environment directly from ePO console, this allows you to deploy a brand new TIE VM in vmware from ePO. This is the function that is going away.

I configure TIE OVA to VMWare.

I thought the TIE Server extension was needed for the TIE policy, TIE server tasks and TIE queries. Is that not the case?

Hello @kblowe

Thanks for your post.

You are correct the TIE Server Management is definitely required if you are managing TIE with ePO.

However, I am not referring  the TIE Server Management Extension here. This is regarding the ServerDeployment extension, which is an optional component of the TIE product.

Also Extension version should be matching and the older version will not work with ePO 5.10 CU 10

Re: EPO 5.10 Update 10 & TIE extension

I'm not using the TIE Server Deployment extension.

I only have the McAfee TIE Server Mgmt extension 3.0.1.122, which I only installed because KB94079 said it was needed to upgrade to ePO 5.10 Update 10. I have since upgrade to Update 10.

Am I forced to upgrade my TIE server now to get ride of this error in the original post?

Or can I install the older compatible TIE Server Mgmt 3.0.0.480 back to ePO to be compatible with my TIE Server which is on 3.0.0.480? Please advise.

The latest version of the TIE server is 3.0.1.119. Hopefully this is compatible with the recent TIE extension 3.0.1.122 release.

Update: I just upgraded my TIE server to 3.0.1.119 and I can confirm it is compatible with the TIE 3.0.1.122 extension. The Extension Compatibility error is no more.
