Thank you for the explanation.
Back to the general problem though, I was hoping I could establish some general troubleshooting guidelines for a problem like this as I have seen similar behavior of McAfee Agent recurring for different products. This scenario got replicated in isolated internal test environment.
So far we could confirm that the task gets invoked and the software gets downloaded but then something goes wrong. Later I was able to install EpoMER by starting the installation package manually (SupportabilityClient.msi) so it's not like the OS in incompatible or something is wrong with the package.
The question remains, how to track what happened after the software got downloaded by the McAfee Agent and fix the error? I tried to turn on the Agent debug mode to get more info but not found anything significant yet.
We can't answer that without seeing logs from the system. I would recommend opening a ticket with McAfee so they can possibly have a remote session with you to see what is happening on the client side.

For anyone with similar problems - it has turned out that the product package checked in in the ePO was somehow corrupted. This has lead to the situation where apparently during the installation the package could not be downloaded correctly. Deleting the packed from the Master Repository and checking it in again has solved the problem.
