I have a large EPO production environment and fairly large QA environment both on EPO 5.9.1.
A third 5.9.1 Dev environment is my playground. My first impression of 5.10 is that I do not like the look of the interface and I much prefer the look of the 5.91 console. I have not worked with 5.10 as of yet and I am planning to upgrade my Dev environment.
The primary reason would be to enable support for Windows 2019.
Here are my questions please:
ePO 5.10.0 Update 2 is now available and I am under the impression that a third support pack will be released soon. Can anyone confirm this please? Is McAfee planning any significant updates to ePO 5.10 at this time and is it worth it to upgrade now or is it best to wait until the next support pack.
I appreciate your opinions on this.
Thank you.
I updated to 5.10 due to DLP extensions requiring it, we could not go in and see our DLP policies in 5.9.
The interface is "pretty" from the makeover but most functions stayed the same. Also seems like the developers have huge monitors and run EPO in full screen from some of their choices. There are some cosmetic things I keep finding annoying like in the software catalog, clicking an arrow to expand the product, there should be an indent for everything in the sublevel of the product. Currently it keeps everything just flat so minus 1 on the eye candy factor.
One complaint I have had with all versions of EPO is when I want to add columns to the system tree view. I like having the agent and product versions from the various installs I have so I can see how we are doing keeping the fleet on the same version. Look at the column headers, I add the column "product version (endpoint security threat prevention)" but all we see is "Product version". so all 3 of ENS in there and 3 columns of "product version". why not put the word that is different at the beginning of the description? Seems rediculous to have a column expand to the 36th charater to see the difference when it is showing a 5 digit version number. Also, I have a column that is just "status".
Another feature EPO really needs is in the client tasks. When making a client task to deploy, we get to go in and define which product and version we want to install/remove. If you update the product elsewhere, then the line goes blank and essentially your task breaks until you come back in and put the product back. Having a bunch of tasks means the admin or team has to remember where each version of something appeared to go back and update it. Would be nice in the main task window to have an indicator if there are action fields with out products specified. OR even the more advanced thing would be if you check in a new version to current, the task that has current in the drop down automatically get the version you just checked in. Otherwise, that drop down of Pre/Cur/Eval is pretty much worthless.
my 2 cents worth
All that being said, I do not have any regrets upgrading. I did have a few querries break that I had to go in and fix, otherwise have not been able to attribute any new issues to ePO yet. Only been on it a week now (refresh 3) so still hunting.
Still on 5.9.1 here, i dread the day I am forced to jump to 5.10
What DLP version forced you to make the upgrade @sw41?
When we updated to DLP 11.1.100, I went into my DLP policies and could open and see the mcafee default one. when I clicked on the ones I made, it just came up as a blank screen. Opened a ticket and support pretty much told me that it required ePO 5.10 to display properly. Once 5.10 was going, I could see all my policies again.
Worst thing about ePO 5.10 is that it doesn't properly respect the browser "back" button.
That's a real pain when you've drilled down from a query into machine details, run a client task, and want to get back.
It all gets rather tedious.
There are a lot of fixes coming out in update 3, but that isn't going to be released until mid March tentatively - no solid date yet on that. So, if you don't need to go to 5.10 right now, you can wait for that to be released. Otherwise, you might run into some cosmetic issues, like column resizing and some others, but overall its functionality is fine.

One other annoyance I am now experiencing with 5.10 is now with everything you check in to Software Catalog, there is a user agreement you have to check before you can checkin the software. You get to scroll way down to find the check box that you agree.
