How can I automate a server task to kick off once a tag is applied and removed?

Jump to solution

I would like to know if it is possible to use a tag to kick off a server task to change the policy on a system. Once tagged I would like to do a agent wake up to recognize that the system needs to have that policy changed, instead of waiting for the schedule that you would create for the server task to run at a given time frame. More like a run immediately feature once you wake up the agent. Also, I would like to have the policy change back once the tag has been removed and the agent woke up again. If this is at all possible. Thanks.

Server tasks can be used to apply and remove tags and tags can be used to assign tasks, but a tag is only for identification purposes to flag a system for something and has no ability to take action on anything.  Server tasks can be run on demand or on a schedule, or triggered by an automatic response, but not by any tag.

I don't believe this is currently possible, and is probably by-design, since ePO admins may want to tag systems with multiple tags before performing an agent wake-up call. Similarly, admins may mistakenly add tags to systems and want them cleared before an agent wake-up call is performed.  Additionally, time-consuming client tasks associated with tags, and off-line systems may also generate some unwelcome feedback for McAfee if this were implemented (by default).

Regardless, I do understand your request, and sometimes wish it were implemented that way -- maybe via a configurable ePO Server Setting.

Perhaps re-post this as an ePO feature enhancement request in the Enterprise Product Ideas forum, and see how many kudos/up-votes you receive:

Maybe a future ePO release could accommodate your idea.
