I am having trouble verifying that McAfee Agent 5.5 has been released to the world. Does anyone know if it is still in release to support (RTS) phase or the release to world (RTW) phase? Also can I check in McAfee Agent 5.5 into an ePO server running 5.3.1 (Build 188)? Thanks in advance!

You can skip the restart and install the 5.5 agent. In fact, you can install ma 4.8 p3, vse p10, ma 5.5 in that order, then reboot only once at end. When the need for a reboot is critical is if there are different versions of syscore being installed. In this case, only VSE is installing syscore.

Please see KB90078 for MA 5.5 compatible products and 51573 for other supported environment info. It was released RTW Dec 19th and is available on the McAfee download page. I don't believe it is in software manager yet. You can also go to t https://sns.secure.mcafee.com/signup_login to sign up for SNS notices when products are released or other SNS notifications.

Thanks for the quick response. I have a case open with McAfee support about an upgrade path to take us from McAfee Agent 4.8 Patch 2 with VSE 8.8 Patch 7 to McAfee Agent 5.5 with VSE 8.8 Patch 10. Support is saying that I can upgrade my agent to 5.5 first then upgrade my VSE to 8.8 Patch 10. But KB90078 says that the McAfee Agent 5.5 is compatible with VSE 8.8 Patch 9 and VSE 8.8 Patch 10. Could I run McAfee Agent 5.5 with VSE 8.8 Patch 7 then upgrade VSE to patch 10 after all my clients have been updated to McAfee Agent 5.5?
If MA 5.5 is only compatible with p9 and above, I would recommend upgrading VSE first. When we post a document for compatible products for a new version of the product, that is from that point product's development team for testing the compatibility of it with other point products. Sometimes that particular point product has not updated their supported environments document to include that new information as quickly. I would always as a general rule, go by the documentation of that new point product for what they have confirmed as tested against and will support.

I am stuck again following that upgrade path where I upgrade VSE to patch 10 first. According to KB51111 VSE 8.8 Patch 10 lists McAfee Agent 4.8 Patch 3 as the minimum agent version needed. I have McAfee Agent Patch 2 installed. So what would I do in this case? Also why would support give out different advice than the support forums for the same issue?
If you look at KB87328, those recommended upgrade paths have not yet been updated for the new agent version. I will see to it that is done asap. In your case, since you are at incompatible versions either on one end or the other, no matter which way you go, your safest option is to upgrade the agent to at least 4.8 p3 first. The supportability documentation of the products is up to each point product to update - I will most certainly get this one fixed. Sometimes that takes a little time to get done due to the different point product team's testing.
In my experience, if one document says it is not supported, then if anything goes wrong, you will be required to be at supported versions. What is your SR number?

Would you have any idea of when you would hear back from VSE engineering? We are trying to get started on this as soon as possible. Thanks again for your help!
They said to go by the MA compatible products doc.
