McAfee Agent Service High CPU

We're starting to get reports that agent 5.6.6 is consuming a lot of CPU, upwards of 100%.  When that happens, the machine basically becomes unusable.

We have extension 5.6.6.104 and agent version 5.6.6.232.  Windows 10.  We're seeeing it more on machines that have 2 cores.  We didn't have the issue with prior versions.

Please advise.

Re: McAfee Agent Service High CPU

Hi,

First thing would be to check exactly which process(es) or services are consuming the high cpu.

Then see if that relates to a recent task execution, policy change or other upgrade/installation that may have occurred when this was first observed.

If it is not immediately clear then consider calling into support for more detailed review.

You also want to check to see if this occurs during an update or during policy enforcement.  The typical cause of that is during policy enforcement when it is processing a very large policy file.  In programdata\mcafee\agent\db, what is the size of the mapolicy.db file?
