Please help - default update killing our PCs

We have a managed scheduled update - it happens at 20:00 everynight. But we also seem to have a managed Default Update which happens immediately.

This managed default update is killing our PCs as the updates are happening when our employees are working, which is slowing our PCs right down.

Could someone please help is figure out why this default managed update is overriding the scheduled update? We'd like to delete the default update altogether.

Could it be caused by this setting - Protection Pilot updates are set to inherit or is this nothing to do with Virusscan updates?

RE: Please help - default update killing our PCs

Its wierd, the agents should have removed the task when it was removed from PP.

Is this task also showing on the PP server?
IF you reinstall/overinstall the agent on a workstation does it dump the spurious task?

RE: Please help - default update killing our PCs

We're just trying a re-install on the workstations now Tony. The (managed) DefaultUpdate task does show on the PP server yes.

UPDATE - just found a workstation that this (managed) DefaultUpdate task is not installed on so I think this task could be the remnants of a previous install on most the of the PCs at some point. The task is on the majority of PCs though, not the minority.

Will let you know the outcome of the re-install.

RE: Please help - default update killing our PCs

I have EXACTLY the same problem at site I look after. Have never managed to find what/where the (Managed) defaultupdate task comes from?

And everyone moans that the workstations are periodically slow....

RE: Please help - default update killing our PCs

Hi Martin - the re-install for us didn't do the trick unfortunately. We've had to open a support call with Mcafee to sort this out.

I'll definately let you know the outcome mate - hopefully they'll get back to us soon.

If McAfee are reading this - its support call reference: 1-403187541 with Mick

RE: Please help - default update killing our PCs

Hi Neil,

I'm glad I’m not the only one puzzled by this! Thanks for replying to my post and I look fwd to how it is fixed (hopefully)

BTW - What’s your overall impression of PP? Clunky?! The next step up is EPO, which seems aimed at larger numbers of users...
