Hi All,
I am trying to disect our ODS Scanning setup that uses tags but unable to find what is actually starting the scan.
I have worked through and figured out the server tasks, the queries they run and the tags applied resulting from the query, however i am yet to find out what it picking up these tags and then deciding if it should be scanned or not.
This was originally setup by a consultant but we are seeing scan issues so need to disect and figure out how this is working before i try figure out the problem.
I would guess client or server task but i cannot see anything obvious. Is Tag based scanning a normal setup for ePO?
Many thanks
Aj
Solved! Go to Solution.
Do any of your server tasks run a client task? Have you checked all assignments in the system tree to see if any have tag criteria in it? If not, you may need to open a ticket with McAfee so we can look at it for you.

Client tasks can be set up based on tags. The agent log on the client should show the task name that is invoked on the client. Once you determine what task is running, you can go to the client task catalog in epo. Find that task, then click on the assignments link to find out where it is assigned. You can then go to that location under system tree, assigned client tasks, and edit the assignment to either disable it or set it up however you need to.

Hi CDI,
I can see the task that is assigned to the location in question and i can also see this being picked up in the logs on the scheduled time and date. It all appears to be working, i just cant see how.
We have 4 Tags ODS Cancelled, completed, started and scheduled, we have server tasks set up that to run queries that will cycle these tags. Eventually they will sit there on scheduled.
The bit i can't see / understand is how this scheduled tag kicks off a scan. I am unable to see a server / client task that looks for this tag and then decided i will scan the machine because it has the scheduled tag.
Just wondering if i am missing something obvious in the middle that ties these 2 events together.
Thanks
Aj

I am unable to see any whos name would imply it would do a related task. I may just have to manual check every single client task and server task.
Like i said i can see the client task that runs on the machines, just not what tirggers that client task to run, frustrating. 🙂
I will get checking
Thanks

Hi CDI,
Spot on, i finally found where these were set. For someone reason in the "Assigned client tasks" in the system tree i forgot the edit assignment does not work like policies in container based assignments.
Clicking Edit assignment showed me the tags, criterea and schedule, i have now managed to map out the whole process and figure out what the 3rd party set up.
Seems i am rusty with my basics 🙂
Many thanks for the help as always.
Aj
