Re: Tried to push Virus Scan Enterprise 8.8 to Win 10.

VSE installation log may help in undestanding the cause of failure.

local installation: %temp%\McAfeeLogs

 ePO deployment:  %windir%\temp\McAfeeLogs

Re: Tried to push Virus Scan Enterprise 8.8 to Win 10.

Hi Amos,

This all depends on what install / patch you are trying to push out.

I think W10 Creators build (1709) needed VSE 8.8 1902 (Patch 10).  Anything higher than creaters build needs patch 11 ( VSE 8.8 1982).

If you download the install package at this patch level and deploy it should work fine.  From what your saying it sounds as if you are trying to apply patch only, which would transfer and then check it's at this level.  If it is then it will show success.

Hopefully McAfee are thinking ahead in terms of Windows 10, ie it is going to be pain having to deploy a new patch every 6 months when they update.

Re: Tried to push Virus Scan Enterprise 8.8 to Win 10.

Hi AJ, I tried to update the patch. I want to Check In Software, but it does not allow me to do so.

What may be the cause?

Re: Tried to push Virus Scan Enterprise 8.8 to Win 10.

Hi Amos,

Do you mean check in software to the repository on the ePO?  If that's the case then it won't be to do with the compatibility of Windows 10 but instead the ePO maybe.

That error is a bit past me im afraid but im sure the helpful CDI can help.

Thanks

Re: Tried to push Virus Scan Enterprise 8.8 to Win 10.

Hi Amos,

I would try the below,

Make sure that we are meeting the environmental requirement to push agent as per

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB56386

Kind Regards

Re: Tried to push Virus Scan Enterprise 8.8 to Win 10.

How exactly are you trying to deploy it?  You will need to look at the logs on the client to see why it is failing.  There are several ways it can fail.

1. The agent fails to get the task and invoke it.

2. The agent runs the task, but is unable to get the necessary files from the repository

3. The agent downloads the files correctly and executes the setup.  From there, it is no longer an agent issue as the install is passed off to msiexec.

4. The install fails for other unknown reasons.

1-3 can be determined by looking at the mcscript log in c:\programdata\mcafee\agent\logs.

4 can be determined by reviewing the VSE install logs located in c:\windows\temp\mcafeelogs.

Without that data, we can only guess as to what is happening.  However, if it comes to us needing to look at the data for you, I would request that you open a ticket with McAfee.  Logs can contain company specific data that you don't want on an open forum.

Please also validate you are using a supported patch level of VSE for your build of Windows 10 - refer to KB51111.
