Upgrade Viruscan 8.5i to 8.7i

Jump to solution

How do you copy the policies from Viruscan 8.5 to 8.7 ?

I have ePO 4.5 installed...

I tried the tool epopolicymigration, but it looks like it does nothing.

Someone can point me to something?

Thank you

Jean G.

You may be right. In order to see of there are errors running the epopolicymigration.exe tool you have to run it from cmd line and specify where you want the results saved. KB59992 explains how to do this. Also the documentation says that you can only run this tool once on the server for any version of VSE. However I found that if you delete the VSE 8700 extension from your ePO server and then install the extension again that it will let you re-run the epopolicymigration.exe tool again. They do caution doing this because removing the 8.7 extension from ePO will also remove any 8.7 Policy changes that were made. But of you do not have any policies under 8.7 then you have nothing to lose.

Hi Jean,

By 'policies' do you mean ePO policies or VSE configurations?

ePOPolicyMigration is meant to transfer ePO policies from one version of ePO to the next.

If you mean VSE configurations, then I think the tool you may be looking for is McAfee Installation Designer (MID). MID allows you to create a configuration and save it in a form that ePO can use.

The steps involved would look something like this:

  1. Create a baseline configuration on a standand PC using the old version of VSE (v8.5 in this case). Include every configuration entry you want to transfer to the next version.
  2. Upgrade to the new version of VSE (v8.7i preferably SP2). Test and ensure that this system is what you want. Check for any additional settings that may need to change as new settings often arrive with newer versions.
  3. Install MID (v8.7) on this PC.
  4. Run MID using the configuration from this PC.
  5. Save the configuration for use with ePO.

Now you have brought forward the configuration from the old version to the new and made whatever changes are needed. You can now deploy the new configuration via ePO.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Ron Metzger

The policies I'm talking about are those inside the menu "Policy Catalog" in ePO 4.5.

If I choose Viruscan Enterprise 8.5.0, I see a set of policies that were setup.

I want to copy those policies to Viruscan Enterprise 8.7.0

If you look at the 8.7 Policy page what policies appear there?

Did you run the ePOPolicyMigration.exe from the Server\Extensions\installed\VIRUSCAN8700\8.7.0.xxx\tools directory?

I have to say also that epo 4.5 was not fresh install.  I have upgraded from 1.5 to 3.6.1 to 4.0, switched database to SQLExpress then upgraded to 4.5

Maybe it has something to do with this?

Is there a log I can see somewhere for the tool epopolicymigration.exe ?

I finally found the problem....

I had Viruscan Enterprise 8.7.0 patch 2, but the Reports and Extensions were not up to date....

I deleted the extensions and re install the correct one provided in the Patch 2 archive.

Then rerun the epopolicymigration from command line and it worked.

Thanks for your assistance!!
