How to enable Web Control on Edge

Hello,

I am sure I am missing somthing obvious.

I am running Server 2012 R2 and Window 10 1809 machines.

We have ENS 10.6.1 and I have deployed Web Control to all client machines - it works fine on IE and Chrome. I cant find any information on how to get it enabled on Edge - I see 10.6.1 is compatible with Edge.

I am lacking GPO's for edge for whatever reason but I can find a way of manually enabling it on Edge.

Can someone please advise?

Thanks,

Julian

Re: How to enable Web Control on Edge

From https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB87568

Enable ENS Web Control in Edge:
In Edge, a prompt displays asking the end user to enable the ENS Web Control extension when opening Edge after the ENS Web Control installation. ENS Web Control does not function in Edge until the extension is enabled.

If an end user disables the ENS Web Control extension in Edge, you cannot re-enable the extension through ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) and the McAfee Agent; the end user must re-enable the extension locally.

Windows provides a group policy (Prevent turning off required extensions) to harden the Edge extension. To ensure that users cannot disable the ENS Web Control extension, add the ENS Web Control extension PFN to the group policy Prevent turning off required extensions. The ENS Web Control extension PFN is the following and can be fetched from the Dev Center portal: 5A894077.McAfeeEndpointSecurityWebControl_wafk5atnkzcwy.

For detailed instructions to enable this group policy, see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/deploy/new-policies#prevent-turning-off-required-ext....

Currently Microsoft does not provide a way to manage Edge through Active Directory to force-enable the ENS Web Control extension.

Re: How to enable Web Control on Edge

Thanks for the reply - the thing is I am not getting the prompt. I have clearly missed a step somewhere.

Re: How to enable Web Control on Edge

If you open Edge and go to "Extensions" do you see the McAfee Web Control extension? What state is it in?

Re: How to enable Web Control on Edge

No - there are no extensions showing.

Re: How to enable Web Control on Edge

It isnt in extensions to turn on - it doesnt look to have deployed into edge as it did in IE and chrome.

Re: How to enable Web Control on Edge

OK, should be fine.

Can I ask you to try this please

  1. Close Edge.
  2. Go to the following location:
    • 32-bit: C:\Program Files\McAfee\Endpoint Security\Web Control
    • 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\Endpoint Security\Web Control
  3. Open the file McAfeeWebControl.appx. An installation prompt appears.
  4. Follow the prompt and install the app package.
  5. Close the prompt.
  6. Open Edge. An Enable WC Extension prompt appears.
  7. Click Enable.
