Need to run a report showing uncategorized hits on CSR

Basically I need the info in MWG Dashboard > Charts and Tables > URL Filter Statistics > Sites not categorized by Hits, but in a CSR report.

I tried just running a report on all hits where category is not available, but that didn't work right. It showed me millions of hits that are actually categorized, like windowsupdate.com. I think simply running a report this way includes all sites that are whitelisted, because those sites never make it to the URL categorization rule.

This is what I did. It included uncategorized sites, but it also included millions of hits for things I have whitelisted or blacklisted. So the results were useless.

Re: Need to run a report showing uncategorized hits on CSR

Hi,

Hope you are doing well.

Say your Global Whitelist rule is placed on top which has few URL's say with criteria URL.host and action is Stop Cycle, now when this rule gets triggered for them no URL Category lookup is done and no category information will be seen in the logs for them  as it is not needed and not requested.

Say you have some rules  before some of your categorization rules which if you have URLs whitelisted/blacklisted before the categorization has a chance to take effect; you will not have categories for these URLs. In turn, I would suggest adding in a rule like the following if you want:-

Property: URL.Categories
Operator: Contains
Value: Web Mail

Action: Continue

Place this rule on top.

Granted, we are not doing anything to block the Web Mail based URLs, but this will allow the categorization engine to be triggered and this could be put at the very top of your ruleset. This will ensure that all traffic passing through gets categorized.

Above is just an example, you can create a rule as per your need using property URL.Categories.

Re: Need to run a report showing uncategorized hits on CSR

Thank you, this is exactly as I suspected.

Even so, is there a way to extract the dashboard data for uncategorized hits, or to run a report on that in CSR? because that data is accurate.

Thanks
